Fused Ceramic Sand, also known as fused ceramsite or ceramsite sand, with the scientific name fused ceramic sand, is an artificial foundry sand developed in the late 1990s. Produced from bauxite through calcination, electric arc fusion (above 2000°C), granulation, and sieving, it features spherical particles, high heat resistance (refractoriness ≥1800°C), low thermal expansion, dust-free composition, and excellent air permeability. As a green eco-friendly foundry material, it mainly replaces traditional molding sands such as silica sand and zircon sand, and is applied in processes including resin sand casting, lost foam casting, investment casting, and 3D printing. It is suitable for producing various metal castings including carbon steel, alloy steel, and non-ferrous metals.
Developed and gradually promoted in the late 1990s, its production technology has been continuously optimized. Leveraging bauxite resources and electric fusion technology, some Chinese enterprises have achieved large-scale production of this material. Related products have been exhibited at industry trade shows, with certain applications in the international market and adoption by multiple manufacturing enterprises in China. Cost reduction is achieved through recycling and mixed-use solutions.
